Yoga in Croatia

Yoga in Croatia

By Weston Finfer

I’ve been looking for a place to practice yoga that has: 1) a beach; 2) a mix of ancient and modern cultures; and 3) foreign food and language I can explore. A few Google searches later and I am set on booking a ticket to Croatia’s Dalmatian coast on the Adriatic Sea. “Croatia?” you think, surprised. “Yes! yoga in Croatia.” With its gorgeous islands, unique heritage (meditate in the Odysseus’ Cave for something sublime) and diverse, delicious local cuisine, Croatia makes an ideal yoga getaway locale.

For your yoga practice: go to a retreat on Hvar Island, sail the Adriatic, learn Dharma yoga and psychic development techniques in Zagreb, and find out what “Yoga in Daily Life” is about.

Getting around Croatia seems to be a breeze, as their bus system is affordable and efficient. Speaking of a breeze, you could find some new sensations as much of Croatia is open to the naturist lifestyle (AKA nudie beaches). More of a history buff? Go climb the Great Wall of Croatia, stand in the center of the world and play “Marco, Polo” in the town where the man was born.

Here’s a basic guide from Conde Nast Traveler for avoiding cultural embarrassments while in the Mediterranean region.
