The Magic of Ibiza~ by Larah Davis
Ibiza is a magical island, where myth meets a colorful inspirational reality, from crazy party scene to total peace and tranquility in the pine-covered hills and rosemary-scented valleys. Where white light shimmers and bounces off the turquoise waters and ragged red rocks embrace hidden coves. Dolphins may greet you by moonlight and the energy of the island can cause you to dance all night under the stars or in the world-renowned clubs and parties.
The powerful energy of the island is also deeply transformative, with the goddess protectorate, Tanit, being the goddess of fertility and dance, causing those that wish to spend more time here to explore many creative paths.
Known as a “triple scorpio island” (according to astrological maps) Ibiza, grounded in soil that is laced with crystals, everything looks brighter, bluer, greener and feels more potent, poignant and evocative.
Therefore for those that live here, Ibiza is an ashram that requires ever-increasing fields of consciousness, inner & outer awareness, spiritually grounding practices that enable you to remain balanced and centered whatever strange things happen, or episodes unfold.
And for those that wish to visit, what better place to come and retreat. Where mother nature welcomes you with open arms and rust red soil, fields of carob and almond trees, gently rustling in the breeze. Ancient farming methods see time standing still and encourage you to slow down, to be present, to reconnect and to open your heart and smile in return to the wide grins and warm hellos of the locals, Ibicenc and ex-pat. Ex-pats flock here from all over the world, offering a melting pot of vibrant ideas, dialogues, fashions, art, music and yoga and healing modalities. Influences garnered from international travels, alternative lifestyles, full commitment to “yoga & well-being” as life purpose journeys.
The powerful, transformative energies cause you to “look at yourself,” to begin to listen to your inner-world, to tune in to your deeper needs so that your talents and creativity can be more easily revealed.
The mystical rock, off the West Coast by Cala D’Or is known as the magnetic rock: Es Vedra, a place that sends boat’s equipment haywire and has its own breed of goat and where the vibrational quality of plants and medicinal (healing) herbs growing there is “through the roof”. Lay-lines are said to cross over Es Vedra and the energy of Ibiza can be felt and remarked on by even the most cynical spectators once their feet have touched the rust-red soil.
In the last ten years, as a place for retreats, Ibiza has been calling more and more yogis, spiritual seekers and those wanting to be able to free their spirits from the barrage of day-to-day “have-tos” that measure time by the minute and by the taxi meter. Instead, Ibiza calls you to let go of the “mind-stuff” the egoistic addictions to emails and wass-ups and to embrace the spontaneous meetings, remarkable synchronicities and technicolor beauty of mountains and valleys. Carpets of flowers dress the island in yellow, white and green in Springtime, blankets of white almond blossoms in February and deep hued pine trees contrast with azure blue skyscapes and dappled turquoise and emerald seas.
Ibiza has long been a nexus point for those living on the edge, a sanctuary for creative thinkers, painters, artists during the 50s and 60s, evolving into a hippy haven, a dance music mecca and also a spiritual sanctuary for those who want to escape (most of) the modern consumerism driven lifestyle; who want to reconnect and live within a caring and open community, to harmonize with nature, the elements, the seasons; to create incomes and resources with trust, hope and passionate commitment to living here on this special white island. Cultures and languages, backgrounds and bank balances, colors and creatures of all types and demographics mix and mingle without judgement, spreading the love through a “be who you are” attitude.
And for those that do…. eventually make it their home, almost all have felt called, compelled and often as if they had “no choice” but to make the transition. Away from the external support structures of large organizations and city-based work, Ibiza calls those that choose to live here to dig deep within their self-belief, to release fears and to put their passions into action and their pride to sleep. To welcome the opportunities and to go with their flow, to find the courage to make it work, if it is truly where they are meant to be.
And so to taste the magic of this special place, where you can really dress how you are feeling, speak, sing and dance according to your internal rhythms, connect with nature and the elements and find empty places to reflect, to be, to heal (even in the middle of high season)… retreats are a wonderful immersion into the soul of the island; to be able to feel welcomed into a rejuvenating home, from home.
