Upon my first meeting with Patti Quintero, it was not hard to tell that this woman was not only a talented yoga instructor but extremely driven and passionate about making a difference in the world. Enter SoulShine Colombia.

A mother of two and a native of Colombia, Patti fell in love with the story of Catalina Escobar, a CNN hero and Colombian who started JUANFE, after losing her baby boy. JUANFE is a non-profit organization that addresses the high rates of infant mortality and aims to empower young women in Colombia by teaching them how to support themselves and break the cycle of poverty. JUANFE’s story would plant the seed for Patti’s own project, SoulShine Colombia.
Patti decided to team up Waves for Water and create SoulShine Colombia: Yoga and Clean Water Project. Waves For Water, a non-profit organization, aims to provide access to clean drinking water to anyone who needs it.
This November, Patti and her friend, Michelle Klinger, will be traveling to Cartagena, Colombia to work with one of the most impoverished communities in Colombia. The week will consist of yoga and meditation classes taught by Patti and supplied with mats graciously donated by Manduka. The women attending the workshop will also undergo training on how to filter their own water, which will leave the community will potable water. One water filter is able to provide 100 people with clean water for up to 5 years. The filters are easy to use and pack and very effective. Providing the community with the power to get clean water will ultimately save lives.
Currently, Patti is working to raise at least $10k to support her SoulShine Colombia project. Completing this goal will guarantee her the success needed to organize future service trips that will continue to teach communities the benefits of yoga and water filtration.
